The Industry

Our Industry

The industry that we work in can be described as many thangs and in many ways. M2M, Telematics, Telemetry, Tracking etc, etc and they all form part of what we do. A less confusing way to think about it is by thinking of any communication between 2 or more parties where at least one of them is a machine or a device. Machine to machine, Machine to man, man to machine... as long as one of the participants is a machine of some kind then we are involved.

The most accurate term used for our industry is telematics. It is estimated that the revenue from the U.S. telematics industry was at $771 million in 2001. This is estimated it to grow to $18 to $25 billion by 2011. It is fair to compare the state of the current M2M and Telematics industry now, to the state that the PC industry was in back in 1980. These projections show a multi-billion dollar potential within the next five years.

One of the most common sectors within Telematics is Tracking or Location based services and nearly 90% of our work is in and around the use of location technology.

So what is Telematics?

in short, the term "Telematics" refers to the "utilization of telecommunications systems to transport data wirelessly between remote systems and computers". for example, Automotive Telematics allow computers to communicate with vehicles through a wireless network.

What are Location-Based Services?

Location-based services have emerged as one of the most popular wireless services for businesses. They are currently in use by companies of all sizes. From tracking cattle, to military jets, location-based services are in use throughout a wide range of industries. By giving people the ability to view the current and past activities of employees, vehicles, and equipment, location based services are saving companies millions of dollars annually.
